Peace – SHALOM – שלום
Hebrew – “Shalom Aleichem”
Aramaic – “Shlama ashlakhu”
In Hebrew the meaning of peace is – tranquillity, harmony, health, safety etc.
In Aramaic it means so much more – it means surrender and the absence of chaos and war.
Letters
Shein – teeth to destroy
Lamed – voice of authority
Vav – hook – connected or attached
Mem – waters of life or waters of chaos and confusion
When we put them all together it reads: Destroy the authority attached to chaos.
Shalama – meaning Yahushua will show us the way of peace and surrender – not only tranquility, but the absence of chaos.
The prince of Peace comes to destroy the authority attached to chaos.
Peace and shalom only comes when the authority connected with chaos and confusion is destroyed.
One of the first examples of Yahushua being our Prince of Peace was when the Angel of YHVH spoke to Mary (Yahushua’ s mother). Declaring His authority in Peace,
Luke 1: 76 declares that:
– Yahushua will be a prophet
– He will go before the face of YHVH to prepare His ways
– He will give knowledge of deliverance to His people, by the forgiveness of their sins
– He will give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death
– He will guide our feet into the way of PEACE. And then later in the Gospel of Matthew Yahushua himself said to his disciples, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God (Elohim)” (Matthew 5:9).
Yahushua/Yeshua calls peacemakers “sons/daughters of God” because, in the Bible, God is called the Oseh Shalom (עשה שלום), that is, “the One who makes peace in His heights” (Job 25:2).
Peacemakers imitate YHVH who makes peace above
For this reason, the kingdom of heaven will be an era of universal peace on earth. Sons and daughters of YHVH are not content to wait until the kingdom arrives, we are busy making peace in today’s world.
By making peace on earth, we bring the world closer to the Messianic Era when the Prince of Peace will reign.
Are you willing to be a peacemaker?
“May YHVH bless you and guard you.
May YHVH cause his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
May YHVH lift up his face to you and place upon you peace.” (Numbers 6:24 – 27)
